The landscape of international climate change law is in flux. In December 2024, the International Court of Justice held a hearing on the obligations of states under international law to fight climate change. As part of its deliberations, the court considered written statements from 91 states and organizations.
Prof. Dr. Thomas Burri, Professor of Public International and European Law at the University of St. Gallen, and his team conducted a statistical analysis of the data to provide an initial substantive picture of the proceedings and how they could shape the understanding of international climate change law.
A snapshot of Prof. Dr. Burri's findings from his research can be found here. I have adjusted the underlying data only to allow for extraction focused on Asian and Southeast Asian states. The adjusted version of the data can be found here.
